The Postgraduate Diploma in event management for marketing and communications is a 9 month course of practical learning and academic study including a 3 month work placement within the industry.
The course is designed to get you work ready, so you leave us feeling confident, capable and ready for a management role in the events industry.
It is the only internationally recognised event management course with Royal Charter endorsement provided by the CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing).
Our study programme is a blend of live in class interaction, virtual lectures and on demand learning. You will be in London two days a month for your live lectures with your fellow Postgraduate students – all other learning, including team projects and interaction, can be done remotely from home.

3 real life client projects. We use our industry contacts in large global organisations such as adidas, The Hilton Group, EE, The British Army and Cancer Research to find real live event briefs. A recent Postgraduate course team directly contributed to an additional £100K investment into a client’s event budget through the quality and creativity of their presentation.
A live event project. This experience will not only bring together all the learning from the course, but test the teamwork, creativity and capability of individuals in a format that is increasingly important in today’s changing world. Multiple site and agency visits. There is only so much that can be taught. Event management requires understanding of how different spaces can be used, how people interact with them, how to create inspiring environments and manage multiple suppliers.
Expert lecturers and guest speakers. Our lecturers are active practitioners and come from all corners of the events industry. They choose to teach with us because they share our vision of creating the best students to enable the industry to be its best.
Tutorials & project clinics. Our students are supported by the senior academic team throughout the course both with their personal learning journey and their client projects. We aim for each student to achieve their maximum potential. Postgraduate Diploma in Event Management
This course is divided into key learning modules, three projects and a live event project, with students having the chance to practice what they learn in a professional environment.
Alongside the technical and logistical event learning provided, we aim to develop an informed confidence in our students. Event management requires great teamwork, resourcefulness, creativity and tenacity to succeed; we see these soft skills as equally important to develop as academic knowledge.

Work Placement: 3 months

Following your first month when you will do 5 days in class, all other months you will spend 2 days learning in London – all other study days are virtual learning.

Vocational Modules: Pitching & Presenting (Extended Module) & Careers Day (marketplace style, sectors guest speakers, CV and Social tips)
Soft Skill Modules: Interview Preparation, CV Preparation
FINAL MARK CRITERIA:
Marks are awarded: 60% Project 40 % Exam
One online exam – answering briefs & scenarios
During your course you will work on three group projects including organising a real live event.
Previous clients include BMW, Credit Suisse, Hilton Foundations, EE, NetJets, The Winter Olympics, The United Nations, UNICEF Pret a Manger, Albion Parties, adidas and Jamie’s Farm.
We invite these organisations to brief students on their event project and ask our students to design an event to answer the brief. Working as part of a small team, you will develop creative, marketing and events solutions to achieve the objective before pitching your idea to the client.
Your final project is a live event to raise money for our chosen charity. Over the last 7 years, The Event Academy students have raised over £125,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust – here’s our Principal, Claire Derrick with our certificate.
You will have a three month work placement within the events industry to your course.
This is a guided process from start to finish.
Your work placement is an incredible opportunity to apply all the skills and knowledge you have learned in the classroom and demonstrate your value to a prospective employer. It gives you real-life working experience as an event manager to add to your CV as well as helping you to better understand the direction you might want to take your career.
We will help you to prepare your CV, teach you how to do your very best at the interview(s) and advise you on the type of placement company we believe will suit you best. Through a series of one-to-one meetings, we will match you to the perfect opportunity to suit you and your ambitions in the industry.
Once you are in your placement, we keep in close contact with you to guide and support you where necessary.
You will have the opportunity to volunteer at a variety of events across the industry. Our reputation within the events industry has allowed us access to some of the most exciting events including The Brit Awards, adidas City Run, Secret Cinema, Wilderness and Boardmasters Festivals…
Throughout the year, opportunities are posted for students on our online student hub. Each time you volunteer at an event you are able to add experience to your CV, create contacts and put your learning into action.
To help you earn while you learn and to develop your experience, we have teamed up with a leading event staffing company who will fast track our students into jobs that you can fit around your studies.
With a choice of jobs and flexible hours, students will have the opportunity to work at VIP launches, weddings, film locations and exclusive concerts. Examples include Wembley, Silverstone, Goodwood, Alexandra Palace and Ascot Racecourse on events such as The Grand Prix, The FA Cup Final or concerts for Childish Gambino, 50 Cent, Britney Spears, Jess Glynne, Rudimental, Years and Years. What a way to consolidate everything that’s being taught in class!

We are flexible on entry requirements for our courses but to give you a general idea for the Postgraduate it is as follows:

General Bachelors Degree
A relevant higher BTEC National Diploma
An International Baccalaureate (equivalent to NQF Level 3 or above
If you don’t have any of the above qualifications you should be either…
Already working in the event or marketing industry with at least one year’s relevant industry experience OR have at least two years alternative professional experience within a business environment
