Rob Mason

Sports Event Management

Rob has 30 years experience in the sport, sponsorship and events business, both as owner-manager of UK sports and events agencies Inform Network and SBI Group, and between 2007 – 2017 SVP and MD of IMG Consulting, the marketing services division of IMG. At SBI, Rob and his team managed a variety of major events and experiences for John Smith’s, Fosters, Cisco, Microsoft, Telegraph Media Group, Pernod Ricard and many more. SBI’s owned and operated events and properties included Challenger World, for which the Microsoft UK Challenge became the UK’s largest inter-company team challenge event. Later Rob also became Managing Director of the London Triathlon, which SBI grew into the world’s largest with over 14,000 participants, and the team then created new mass participation events such as Nike Run to the Beat (a half marathon to live music), The Blenheim Triathlon and Etape Caledonia, the first closed-road cycling ‘sportif’ in the UK. At IMG Rob was involved in many events, both those owned and operated by IMG and corporate client-sponsored, including the Indian Premier League, Masters Tennis, various professional Golf tournaments, Hampton Court Palace Music Festival, Taste Food Festivals, Dubai Expo, and Fashion events. His work with leading sports global brands, rights holders, venues and practitioners is unique and gives him a very powerful insight into the relevant training needs for The Event Academy. Few in the industry possess such a breadth of knowledge and experience across a range of sports and entertainment platforms spanning different disciplines and geographies. We are very privileged to have him on board. He shares our passion for effective training, for creating careers for young people and he’s also a pretty useful sportsman (cricketer) himself!
