Best placed to land that job
Last updated August 25th, 2015
- Ever wondered what it’s like to head into a work placement with a top experiential marketing agency?
- Want to work for the kind of agency that dismisses thousands of speculative CVs each year?
- Want to have the opportunity to showcase what you’ve learned and make the case to be taken on as a permanent employee?
Each one of our postgraduate students has exactly this opportunity through the 3 month placement we offer as part of the course.
Why does a work placement matter?
We know that getting your foot in the door with that first job in the industry is the hardest part and our work doesn’t end when you complete your assignments and exams. Our Course Director (the lovely
Justine Kane) works with each of our postgraduate students individually to make their placement a dream come true.
So how does it work?
It is all about you!
Students come to event management from all kinds of backgrounds and with a huge variety of interests. Our job is to help you figure out how to make the most of it. Imagine you are one of our postgraduate students:
- Justine talks to all new students at the beginning of the course. This is your chance to let us know what your career aspirations are, your interests and passions and how you want your career to fit in with the rest of your life.
- We have industry partnerships with top agencies like Jack Morton so we know exactly what they need from placement students. They also trust our recommendations and CVs from our students go straight to the top of their pile of applicants.
- 7 weeks into the taught part of the course all students have a 1-2-1 session with Justine with an open conversation about what you really want, now you’ve started the lectures.
- Justine will give suggestions for 10-15 companies for you to research, tailored to your interests and matched up to what the companies are looking for.
- We run a CV session for all postgraduate students with recruitment agency professionals to help you polish your CV ready for sending to placement companies.
- One final catch up with Justine to guide you on your best options and then you choose your top 3 companies and send off a shiny, newly polished CV!
- Wait to hear, just like you would any job application. Then at the end of the taught part of the course, rush off into the sunset of a new career.
Our links with the top companies and agencies are really strong. For this year’s
Hewlett Packard Graduate programme all the successful applicants were students on our PG course. We’re a little bit smug about that and we couldn’t be more proud of our students. As Justine says
“We see how hard our students work in the classes, we see how hard they challenge themselves to succeed. I really push for every one of our students to be rewarded with the career they’ve earned, I think of them as my babies!”
