Something you don’t often get to see is the running of a top notch, superbly crafted formal dinner event from the inside. On the surface and for the guests it must be a silky smooth experience. Memories of the evening will include excellent food, impeccable service, a beautiful location and some sparkling entertainment.
For the events team the experience is what Claire Derrick, our Director of Education, calls “the swan effect”. Their job is to keep everything beautifully calm on the surface while paddling away furiously to ensure the minute by minute schedule they’ve carefully crafted holds the blueprint for a fabulous evening.

As Vivien said in an interview with us a few weeks ago, she thinks of event management as being a job all about designing beautiful things for other people to enjoy.
