It’s Friday lunchtime and you have a list of celebrity names on your desk. Your task for the afternoon is to track down their agents and call round the list to ask for their support on social media for a
charity who do amazing work with young people. You might even get to talk to one or two of the celebrities themselves. One of your colleagues knows Russell Brand and has just persuaded him to join the
#signthebat campaign. Yesterday you were in contact with Bruce Forsyth’s agent and it looks like he is going to give his support, thanks to your work.
Support and sponsorship for a worthy cause
Our current
PG student Antonia Hurley, described a typical day on placement with
Ambition, Event Academy’s charity of the year. Ambition is busy with preparation for
90 year anniversary celebrations and Antonia’s remit during her placement is to bring her event management expertise to support the charity’s inaugural gala dinner to be held in July.
We caught up with Antonia last week and the above is exactly how she described her afternoon schedule. After spending 12 weeks studying full time on our PG Event Management course and passing her exams with a distinction, she is now putting her skills to the test with a real employer.
When she isn’t contacting celebrities, Antonia is busy working on the branding for the gala dinner to attract sponsorship to ensure the charity’s resources and PR activity go as far as possible. She is putting in to practice the theory taught on our ‘Fundraising events’ and ‘Marketing Events’ modules.
Antonia explained to us that, as students, she and her colleagues learned about the challenges of attracting sponsorship for fundraising events, but actually doing the job really hammers home the reality of what it takes to create a successful fundraising event.
We know that having solid experience of working for a well respected organisation will boost Anotonia’s career and that is why we support all our PG students to find a placement that will suit their interests. Many students go on to gain a job with their placement companies and we love catching up with our alumni to find out how they are getting on.
We don’t need to wish Antonia luck as we know she’ll be spectacular in the role. After all, she was
taught by the best 😉
