Managing green events can be simple, and used as part of your event marketing in a positive way.
Becoming an event manager for a green event can mean thinking beyond labelled recycling (though this is a good first step) and using incentives are a way to draw your attendees into your ideas and be a real part of your green events.
1. Recycling – A clearly labelled recycling scheme – Make it as easy and accessible as possible to recycle by having enough recycling bins. Listing what can be recycled and what is waste on the bins themselves and in your event marketing will reiterate your green policy. You could also employ
green event assistants to help.
2. Car Sharing – A car sharing scheme will reduce vehicles on the road and CO2 emissions and will also mean sharing the cost in fuel.
3. Food & Drink Packaging – Using biodegradable and recyclable packaging only will make a big difference in the volume of waste. For drinks, reusable branded cups could be used and a deposit paid which is returned to the attendee once the cup is.
4. Technology –
Take advantage of technology – There’s great technology available to help you in becoming an event manager of green events and to use less paper. Some of these could include
– Emailing tickets
– Displaying Schedules on large screens or fewer large posters
– Instructing attendees to use their smartphones to scan QR Codes displayed at the event, giving them access to web links with schedules and information
– Using tablets to display information
5. Incentives for being green- Giving your attendees rewards for being part of your
green event is a great incentive. For a car sharing scheme, offer priority parking or for those who select an electronic ticket, priority entry could be offered. If attending your event has a cost, you could offer discounted tickets for the next event for attendees using QR Codes. Prize draws with free tickets or prizes from sponsors or traders could also be used to encourage being green.
Finally, sharing these tips in your event marketing before and during your event will show your attendees your commitment, encourage them to be part of it and as a result help you event manage a green event.
