"I am going to remember these experiences for the rest of my life"

Federica Cuocolo talks about her experience on the PG July 2016 course   Before booking the postgraduate course  I didn’t have any kind of experience in the crazy, wonderful world that event management is. The best part of the course is that is totally practical and realistic. Through doing several live projects we’ve learned a lot about different areas of this job. We had the opportunity to organise events for some of the best companies in London (such as EE, Secret Cinema, L’escargot and Wired) which was absolutely fantastic. I have always had an interest in fashion so at the beginning of the course I really wanted to work for a fashion company; but during the course I was able to get an insight into other sectors. Doing this course, I discovered different points of view from mine working in groups and with classmates, I found this really useful; I feel more confident about myself and I understand that even if sometimes things can seem difficult they don’t have to be scary! In these three months of class I have improved myself in many things because every day our lectures teach us how the event management world works. I am always the same person but more complete as a result of this course, because it was full of great moments, experiences and amazing projects. I have learned how to put on the paper an event marketing plan which is so good because before doing the course I had no idea really what marketing was; and this is just a small part of what we did within the course. At the moment I am doing my placement at Secret Cinema, a really cool company that organize amazing events in London. I am totally loving this experience because what they do is really innovative. Secret Cinema organize events inspired by the famous movies. I had the possibility to participate like a guest at the last one that was “Dirty Dancing”. It has been one of the funniest experience of my life. Working with Secret Cinema is pretty cool because I am learning a lot about this job and I am really lucky. Every day I do different stuff with different people and it’s great because I can help to create wonderful event. I have many duties but mostly I always do research about the topic of the event because you have to know very well what are you going to propose to the public. I would really like to continue to work with them because it’s a big opportunity for me to improve myself. The environment is really stimulating, so every day I want to do more and more. As I said I am working on different things but what I like mostly is that sometimes I had the chance to go with someone and see the locations that could be useful for our events; it’s a great experience, because in this way I can understand what they are looking for and mostly for which reasons. The best moment of the entire course was the live event that we organized with our team. It was so exciting to all work together to raise money for such a beautiful charity as Teenage Cancer Trust. It has been really fun and we did our best to create a great event for all the guests who attended. I am pretty sure that I am going to remember all these experiences for the rest of my life because I think that I can consider it the “beginning” of my career. To all the people who want to get into the event industry I want to say don’t be shy or scared (like I was sometimes) because doing this job every day can be different and it offers the possibility to discover lots of new things. It’s all about learning. With a positive mind and attitude, we can create experiences out of this world. If you want to start you career in this sector do it. Because I am pretty sure that the event management world is big enough for all of us!
