Each year, millions of generous people around the globe take part in a myriad of events, with the aim of generating some extra cash for non-profit, charitable organisations. Charity event marketing and event volunteering play a huge part in ensuring the success of these events, success which can help provide the chance at a better life for the less fortunate people of the world. Here are three examples of the best events happening this year.
Life Ball
When it comes to supporting people with HIV or AIDS, nothing in Europe is bigger than Austria’s Life Ball. The central aim of the event is to raise awareness of the diseases. This is achieved by holding a unique and extravagant event modelled around the traditions of the Viennese ball culture.
The opening ceremony alone attracts tens of thousands of visitors as well as 500 national and international media representatives. Vienna´s City Hall Square plays host to a 2-hour stage show which is free for everyone to experience.
Life Ball guests are encouraged to get creative by designing and wearing fancy, unusual outfits which contribute to the unique flair of the event. This exuberant approach serves the purpose of both celebrating life and making a loud, resonant statement in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
The Global Party
Throughout the month of September, many venues spread over more than 500 cities worldwide will play host to an invite only, VIP party for the world’s elite, in a philanthropic mission to support hundreds of charitable causes.
Attendees are invited to give generously whilst enjoying their extravagant surroundings in some of the world’s finest hotels, bars and boutiques. Since its inception in 2011, The Global Party has attracted a thousands of wealthy individuals and has raised over £1,500,000 for its beneficiaries – a figure is expected to rise significantly this year due to the large increase of new hosts and venues.
Its organisers,
The Global Charity Trust, use the proceeds of the event to support a diverse spread of organisations, each focused on various worthy causes, from health and education, to children, environmental issues and animal welfare.
Relay for Life
At Relay for Life events, more than 5,200 communities in 20 countries come together to honour cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the terrible disease. The event serves as the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, raising more than $400 million each year.
Participating teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at local schools or parks. Events are up to 24 hours long, and each team is required to have at least one participant on the track at all times.
Many of the laps are themed, for instance, the Survivor Lap encourages cancer survivors to complete a walking lap to celebrate their victory over cancer, while the Caregiver Lap recognises those who have given care to cancer patients. There is also a Luminaria Ceremony, in which candles are lit and placed around the track to honour loved ones who have passed, or are fighting the disease.
