Work Experience at Ashdown

Jade is 16 and has been with us this week getting some work experience. She has been a Star! “I’m at the stage now where I am taking my GCSE’s. I decided to go for a really big range in what to do: Food Tech, Photography, History and most of all Business. Business has been one of my favourite lessons so far, looking into how to create your own business, what entrepreneurs have to face and understanding how big companies operate. However, more to the point, I have come to Event Academy for work experience hoping to get an insight of the ‘real working world’ out there, and what I actually need to do to get me into the events industry. I’ve always wanted to get into events… I love organising and I love being able to plan things. Overcoming big challenges and managing projects in events seem to be great skills which I would love to be able to master. I have helped plan a couple of events before with school. I’ve planned end of year parties and also a sports day for year 1 – year 6’s. I loved the feeling of being able to help out with something and to see it all come together. Leading on from this, this week of work experience with Event Academy has been amazing. Sorting out student’s profiles, managing guest lists, exam papers, being involved with team meetings, listening in to conversations with alumni and suppliers…the list goes on. It’s such a great feeling knowing you’re achieving and are able to be so passionate in a career. It’s been a massive boost for me to be looking at what I might want to do in life and to see it all come together behind the scenes. It really makes me determined to head down this path. I came across Event Academy for work experience because I had already had an insight into what the company does through a friend. My school gave us lots of opportunities for places to go but I felt that this experience would benefit me the most. Now that I have chosen Event Academy, I know I wouldn’t have found anywhere else like it. This experience has given me an amazing view as to what’s going on and what I need to do to make it all happen. The journey starts here!”
