Introduction

With sustainability a top priority for all businesses and with imminent legislative reporting on the horizon, considering the environmental, social and economic impact of the events we organise is becoming a critical part of delivering live events. In a typically wasteful industry, it is imperative that we minimise our impact to drive positive change for a more sustainable future. But where do we start? What is sustainability, why is it important and how do we deliver sustainable events? 

What is the course about?

This course helps experienced event managers learn the foundations of sustainability, how to apply sustainable practices to event delivery, how to measure the impact of an event, how to review performance to continually improve and inform best practice and more. The course provides tangible insights, comprehensive knowledge and practical applications; enabling event managers to deliver successful events, sustainably.

Who is the course for?

This course is for event managers with 2-3 years’ experience in any company type or industry, namely Corporate Event Managers, Event Agency Staff, Supplier Staff, Venue Staff and Executive Assistants & PA’s involved in organising events.

What will I learn?

The course will provide learners with in-depth comprehensive knowledge including:

  • Navigating inevitable challenges; building a business case for sustainability and problem solving

  • Storytelling and avoiding greenwashing
  • Sustainability certifications/accreditations 
  • Assuring due diligence; writing sustainability objectives and a sustainability management plan
  • How to conduct a sustainability audit of an event (and conducting an event audit with the group)
  • And key sustainability performance learnings and implementing changes for continual improvement

How is the course structured?

Delivering Sustainable Events is a comprehensive suite of 12 learning modules. Learners will need to commit approximately 3 hours each Thursday for 9 weeks to the course with a mix of on-demand and virtual learning. In week 10 learners will need to attend 3 consecutive days face to face in London for practical learning application. Finally, learners will need to pass an assessment and write a dissertation in weeks 11 and 12 to apply their learnings to their role and/or industry.

When is the next start date?

The next course start date is Monday 6th January 2025. 

Learners will commit to 3 hours per week of learning for 9 weeks, plus face to face sessions in Central London on Tuesday 11th, Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13th March 2025.

Then learners will have time to complete their assessment and dissertation writing w/c 17th and 24th March 2025.
