Fundraising creates better futures for young people

Last updated March 9th, 2015
By Louise Winters Creating a fundraising event from scratch within a month is a good test of an event manager’s mettle and it provides a really tangible measure of success by looking at the sum raised. Every intake of postgraduate students here at Ashdown is put to the test in this way as part of their training and we are always overwhelmed by what they achieve. Back in December, once all the donations had come in, our students raised an amazing total of £9649.31 as a result of two evening events in London that were entirely planned and managed by the students. Here is a storify of the live event social coverage. We are thrilled by the success of the fundraising events and that we are able to support Ambition by donating the money raised toward their Ambition Giving fund for 2015. Ambition Giving is a scheme to offer grants of up to £2000 to groups or individuals to help develop activities for young people aged under 24 in their local communities. The fund has been created as part of Ambition’s 90 year celebrations in 2015 and is open to applications now, via the new Ambition 90 website. Ambition are currently in event planning mode themselves as they gear up for their 90th year celebrations gala dinner in July this year with one of our current students Antonia Hurley (who is on a work placement) to support the preparations. We and our students are proud to be able to offer fundraising support to a charity that works tirelessly to improve the futures of young people all over the country. This is an aim that is close to our hearts here at Event Academy, particularly for our Director of Education, Claire Derrick. “We passionately believe that building skills and confidence in young people is critical to their future success and happiness as adults and this belief is at the core of our training ethos”. Our partners at Ambition are keen to share with their supporters and those involved in event planning exactly how the funds raised are supporting young people. To let us know how much they value any support for their work with young people they shared this moving video. Thank you from Ambition Thank you, Ambition, for giving us the opportunity to share our skills and expertise in event planning to support your fantastic cause and be a part of something that changes young people’s lives across the UK for the better.
