We welcome many, many new students throughout the year, but we never forget how daunting it is start a brand new course and how crucial it is to jump straight in and use it to build your successful career.
Our dedicated student experience team will look after you and your career development. So you know what you can expect we caught up with
Susie, our student services manager, to ask her to share her top tips are for anyone starting an event management course with us or thinking about signing up.
1) Think of yourself as an event professional
Right from the moment you sign up with Event Academy we will encourage you to consider yourself an event professional and this is exactly how we’ll treat you.
We’ll guide you by offering access to our LinkedIn connections, our network of expert lecturers, our industry partners and their
volunteering opportunities. Use this to gain experiences that will catapult your CV to the top of the recruitment pile.
2) Get practical and get yourself immersed in the industry
We’re based in London for good reason. There are loads of amazing events and venues on our doorstep. We’ll give you a head start in the London events scene with lecturers who are event professionals themselves, publications and social media tips.
You need to follow the example of our
Head of Experience, Hans, as he launches himself across London. Attend events and find out for yourself what creates anticipation and buzz and what leaves an audience feeling flat. You’re an event professional, remember? It’s all a career development opportunity!
3) Take advantage of student benefits and discounts
This might seem obvious, but don’t forget about it. All those registered on our courses can apply for an
NUS card to give you discounts with a huge number of UK retailers, insurance and travel companies. Again this will help you make the most of your time training with us.
We are also registered with Transport for London as part of their 18+ Student Oyster photocard scheme so most of our students can save money on travel. This leaves you with no excuse not to get out and about to all those fabulous London events.
4) If you have questions, don’t sit on them
Our job is to help you get the most out of the training we provide. We measure ourselves on your career success, so we want to see you shine.
If you have questions about the assessments, how you will work on the project, how to
apply for volunteering opportunities then please ask us. You can email or call us on 020 7183 5129 and it is our mission to ensure you feel fully supported through your training.
5) Get chatting to others on your course
For all of our students attending lectures on site we run a 45 minute registration session just before the first lecture. The student experience team run the registration desk and we love to meet you all, so make sure you say hi and let us know if you have any questions.
This is also an excellent time to grab a coffee and break the ice with others on the course before you get thrown headlong into the lectures and the next phase of your career as an event professional.
