TEDxBrighton 2013

Last updated September 9th, 2013
Event Academy is proud once again to sponsor TEDxBrighton, following on from last year’s very successful event. TEDxBrighton is a one-day conference taking place at the Brighton Dome Corn Exchange on 25th October. The event will showcase influential speakers with connections to Brighton. This year’s theme, Pass It On, is about Legacy & Heritage: What was, what is, what will be and what could have been. TEDxBrighton’s inspiring live speakers will represent a range of backgrounds, interests, disciplines and perspectives, combined with some classic TEDTalks. The first two speakers have been announced. Writer, Broadcaster and Futurist – Leila Johnston and Coffee Extraordinaire – Konrad Brits will be gracing the stage in October. Leila is fascinated by contemporary maker culture and espouses ‘doing things you’re not supposed to’ with ideas and systems wherever possible. She is the co-creator of successful ‘geek culture’ podcast Shift Run Stop, the author of three humour books and the founder of several sell-out event series. Konrad is the founder and managing director of Falcon Coffee, a UK based green coffee trading company that focuses on building collaborative supply chains between rural coffee farmers and roasting companies around the world. Outside of the conference hall, the Ideas Lab will offer the people of Brighton the chance to engage with a variety of interactive ideas, exhibitions and projects. You can apply for tickets until 16th September. The application form is open for all who are interested in attending this year’s conference. Tickets will cost £30 and successful applicants will be given instructions on how to pay with their notification. Those who are unsuccessful will be placed on a waiting list for unclaimed tickets. The revenue from the tickets goes directly into the running costs of the day. In true TED tradition we will be curating our conference audience to be as diverse and engaging as possible, this is because our audience is as important as our speakers. This is why when applying for tickets we ask you a few quick questions on how you interpret the theme of legacy. We’d like to stress there are no ‘right’ answers – we want to hear your individual and unique thoughts & interpretations. TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, Ideas Worth Spreading. The program is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated by independent, enthusiastic individuals, operating under a license from TED.
