Here in the Event Academy office we genuinely live and breathe events. Catching up with each other this morning we realised that everyone, in spite of the drizzle, had been out over the weekend experiencing what our cities had to offer and we’ve decided to share some of those moments with you.
Moscow State Circus
The Director of Education,
Claire Derrick, had ringside seats at yesterdays performance of Park Gorkogo by the
Moscow State Circus. An amazing variety of Juggling acts, comic performances and daring feats of strength and of course the high trapeze – great way to spend two hours. We must stress that she will not be leaving Event Academy to join the circus!
Brighton Food & Drink Festival
Meanwhile, our digital guru was busy wandering around the
Brighton Food & Drink Festival stands. Unsurprisingly,
Natalie’s main goal was to explore all of the culinary delights through the delicious free samples offered at each stall – from white chocolate and raspberry jam to “humble pies” and prawn dimsum! Check out this great video intro to the Festival:
Krater Comedy Club
On Sunday evening, our Student Services Manager, Cindy, hopped off to the
Krater Comedy Club at Brighton Komedia. Stephen Grant is an award winning comedian and radio presenter and is best known as resident compere at Krater Comedy Club, he is incredibly funny and his interaction with the crowd is extremely amusing. Sunday evening had a great line up with four completely different comedians, however they were joined by a surprise guest, Gearoid Farrelly, how is currently tour supporting Sarah Millican at Brighton Dome. Komedia is lots of fun and defiantly a venue you should visit.
Rumble in the Jumble
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of talking to or meeting our Course Advisor, Karin, then you might be aware that she is a bit of an events-addict. Karin doesn’t seem to be capable of taking a night or weekend off and can always be found milling around the latest cool event in Hackney. Last weekend, Karin found herself at the BBC Radio 1 Gemma Cairney & The Music Circle’s event –
Rumble in the Jumble. Here’s what she thought of the event:
“I went to one of the most fabulous fundraising events in my beloved neighbourhood Hackney on Saturday.
This event was organised by THE MUSIC CIRCLE (a subsidiary of Annie Lennox’s The Circle: a group of women in the music industry working with Oxfam to fight poverty and inequality) in association with OXFAM and aimed to raise money and awareness for women in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the victims of “the world’s most forgotten conflict”, who face constant threats of forced displacement, sexual violence, abduction and extortion.
At this jumble sale, you could snap up items donated by celebrities and the public, and you could find the following:
- Circle founder Annie Lennox’s hand-written lyrics for ‘Sweet Dreams’
- David Gandy’s Dolce and Gabbana suit
- Snow Patrol’s guitar
- Anna Calvi’s Gucci heels
- The four-track that Suede’s Brett Anderson recorded early b-side ‘He’s Dead’ on
- The shoes Garbage’s Shirley Manson wore in the video for ‘Blood For Poppies’
- Lauren Laverne’s Marc Jacobs dresses and her leopard print coat
- A signed Florence and the Machine screen print
- Ricky Wilson’s 2010 tour denim jacket
- Disclosure’s Nike Air Max trainers
- Tinie Tempah’s Nike Jordans.
Whilst shopping you could dance along to Radio 1 DJ’s, have your make-up done by pop-up Smashbox Studio and your hair done by pop-up Bumble & Bumble hair salon.
There was also a festival ticket raffle! My favourite!! You could buy £3 tickets to enter a draw for tickets to all the best festivals, including VIP tickets to Field Day, Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading, Lovebox, Outlook and more.
Last but not least, there was delicious food by Jamie Oliver which you could enjoy with a drink in the sun on the roof terrace!
I shopped ’til I dropped, impressive 4 hours! I managed to get my hands on a unique vintage dress once owned and loved by Grace Woodward, TV presenter and fashion stylist, amongst other wonderful items. I loved every single minute of this event and I was one of the last out!
This wonderful event managed to raise
£24,458.62
