Volunteering at The Brits 2016

Last updated March 1st, 2016

20 of our current students and some alumni had the good fortune to volunteer at The Brits this year. It’s not just an incredible experience but gives everyone an insight into how a big, global TV event of this nature actually works. Here is some of their feedback:

“Absolutely Brilliant!!! So surreal that you’re in a large venue with so many celebrities walking past you or asking you questions…still can’t get over it. I loved every second of it. It was also great to understand how a large enough event, like the Brits 2016, goes about planning such an event. From the concessions for the public, down to the minute detail of the tables and what’s on them. This is something that will be remembered for years to come. Thanks again for the opportunity and hope more like these are yet to come.” Dixit Patel “Wow! what an experience! Surreal is definitely the right word to use! What fantastic talent under one roof, but you shouldn’t just limit that compliment to the celebrities that were attending. When meeting some of the people involved to create and run such an event, the outside caterers Payne and Gunter and the on-site O2 arena event team, took the time to go through the ‘ins and outs’ of what they do, how they do it and why it is successful. This was priceless. Not many people will ever get that opportunity and I thank you for that. The sheer work and effort to successfully execute a event of this scale requires superior organisation, dedication, communication and real belief in the cause itself. All of the that was not in shortage on the day. Organised chaos with rehearsals coinciding with preparations of food and beverage for the tables, gave us all a great glimpse of the amazing line up. Nevertheless as the guests started to arrive all was ready for a truly spectacular evening and one that I will remember forever! I am truly grateful for this experience and gives me more determination and passion to have a successful career in the events industry. Many thanks, Lauren Titera” “Just want to say thank you for the opportunity to work at the Brits. I know there may have been other people who could have had the opportunity so I appreciate you giving me the chance last minute. The event went really well, and was a special event to work at amongst the celebrities etc… I found it was extremely beneficial to me personally, managing to get an insight into how certain parts of events are run especially in that type of live show environment. I think it will benefit me for my course and also my plans outside and beyond.” Kieran Gayle

“The tour of the O2 and breakdown of how an event like the Brits is run was much appreciated by the organisers who gave their time to talk to us.  It was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I took away a lot about high-concept and high-profile event planning, and hospitality and guest management.  It’s a lot tougher than it looks!  I would highly recommend it to any students for next year, and the celeb spotting is well worth the achy feet at the end of the day!

I saw Louis and Liam from 1D, Lana del Rey, Henry Cavill (very fit in the flesh), Ant & Dec rehearsing, Adele, James Bay and The Wkend doing dress rehearsals, and Catfish and the Bottlemen and Jack Garratt mingling by my tables.  Some of us even think we may have seen Bieber rehearsing, but that is up for debate!” Reena

“It was INCREDIBLE, the best event that I have ever attended. Seeing everything from behind the scenes was fantastic. Plus the opportunity to see all the rehearsals and celebrities – priceless ;)” Anna Gornicka “Thanks a ton for the opportunity. It was amazing seeing Rihanna, Adele and James bay rehearse .. Watching Lana Del Rey walk into the arena was unreal 🙂 Was a glamorous event and great venue.” Sunaina Bopanna “It was so good thanks! 🙂 A great experience, great company, saw lots of celebs haha! Definitely a GREAT opportunity to be in the arena while they’re streaming live TV! So happy to have been a part of it! Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to do it! If it weren’t for the Event Academy I’d not be able to say ‘I worked at the Brit Awards 2016!!’ Yay :)” Simone Atallah
