Creative fusion for events

Last updated February 15th, 2022
Mumbai born Charmi Patel joined our postgraduate course in London to marry her entrepreneurial mindset to the creative world of event management.

“London style is amazing, but Asian wedding celebrations show you a different world”

Charmi’s mission is to combine the best of different worlds. Having already decided to bring her analytical business sense to event management, she’s also got a clear idea what kind of events she wants to plan to perfection. Fascinated by how wedding celebrations are shaped by different culture and heritage, she’s determined to bring the best of English and Asian style to her own destination wedding business.

“25 singers in Hammersmith for a marriage proposal: what an amazing thing to make happen!”

It’s tough to get a break into the agency world so Charmi was thrilled to join The Proposers, a boutique marriage proposal and romantic event planning agency. Being given responsibility from day one made it a fantastic career development experience and Charmi now counts client management as a key skill on her CV. Having the full experience of leading right from an initial client call through to the day of the proposal itself Charmi’s now confident when talking to any prospective employer in the industry.

“If what you do is authentic you won’t need to impress anyone – they’ll notice you anyway”

That amazing placement wasn’t Charmi’s first choice. Yet looking back, she thinks it is the perfect experience to launch her career. She really clicked with team at The Proposers and knows she’s made contacts that she will keep in touch with for the rest of her career. As advice for aspiring event managers: remember that the contacts and people you work with will create opportunities for the future. Never imagine that the end of a job is the last time you’ll speak to someone, there could be all sorts of opportunities later. The events industry is all about teamwork, networking and making contacts with suppliers, venue managers, entertainment producers and even nervous clients who want to pop the question or celebrate a special anniversary. Once they know your work, they’ll come back to ask for your help next time they’re in the same boat. If, like Charmi, you want to pursue a full course of study with a placement and still get qualified in 6 months take a look at our postgraduate course. If you know wedding planning is your calling and you want a quick career boost, take a look at our wedding short course. If you want to talk over you options please give us a call or visit us at an opening evening. We’d love to help you fly into your dream career. Photo 1
