Overview

This course is completely unique as it combines the Foundation, Intensive Diploma & Postgraduate with additional mentoring from senior tutors.

We strongly believe that students wishing to learn the skills to be an event manager do not need to go to university for three years.

We believe that by combining our courses to teach you the three levels of study combined with a work placement and mentoring will enable you to transition into the work place easily.

Degree Alternative in Event Management 
This course is divided into four key stages combining our Foundation Certificate, Intensive Diploma, Postgraduate and optional Work Placement.

Alongside the technical and logistical event learning provided, we aim to develop an informed confidence in our students. Event management requires great teamwork, resourcefulness, creativity and tenacity to succeed; we see these soft skills as equally important to develop as academic knowledge.

Lectures: 9 months (12 months with optional work placement)

  • Foundation:                    1 week full-time ,   Monday – Friday
  • Intensive Diploma:        2 weeks full-time, Monday – Friday (Virtual Classroom)
  • Postgraduate Diploma: 2 days a week in class  (Virtual Classroom)
    A hybrid blend of virtual and online lessons, group work, tutorials and 2 days of live classes in London per month

YOUR COURSE WILL INCLUDE:
• Multiple site visits to London venues
• 6 team projects (real life client briefs and a live event)
• 5 live pitches (presenting back your project brief to a real client)
• 1 virtual live event

KEY LEARNING

Enable you to plan, produce & implement multiple events
Develop your inter-personal and leadership skills

Core Modules: The Event Journey, Strategic Planning, Creative Thinking & Storytelling, Operational Planning, Budgeting & Documentation, Risk Management, Production & Technical & Virtual Events

Industry Sector Modules: Festivals, Fashion & Private Parties, Wedding Planning, Celebrity Events, Corporate Events, Immersive Events, Sports Events, Hospitality & Sponsorship, Exhibitions.

Additional Modules: Marketing Fundamentals, Sales, Public Relations, Social Media, Experiential Marketing, Event Technology, Diversity & Inclusion in Events, Sustainability in Events Digital Marketing & Social Media, Setting Up A Business.

Vocational Modules: Pitching & Presenting (Extended Module) & Careers Day (marketplace style, sectors guest speakers, CV and Social tips)

Soft Skill Modules: Interview Preparation, CV Preparation

Mentoring: each student will be have a senior member of the academic team as a mentor for the duration of the course to guide and support their learning.

FINAL MARK CRITERIA:
Marks are awarded: 60% Projects 40 % Exams
Online exams – answering briefs & scenarios

Client Projects

During your course you will work on six group projects including organising a real live event.

Previous clients include BMW, Credit Suisse, Hilton Foundations, EE, NetJets, The Winter Olympics, The United Nations, UNICEF Pret a Manger, Albion Parties, adidas and Jamie’s Farm.

We invite these organisations to brief students on their event project and ask our students to design an event to answer the brief. Working as part of a small team, you will develop creative, marketing and events solutions to achieve the objective before pitching your idea to the client.

Your final project is a live virtual event to raise money for our chosen charity. Over the last 7 years, The Event Academy students have raised over £150,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust – here’s our Principal, Claire Derrick with our certificate.

3 Month Work Placement

You will have a guaranteed three month work placement within the events industry to your course.

This is a guided process from start to finish.

Your work placement is an incredible opportunity to apply all the skills and knowledge you have learned in the classroom and demonstrate your value to a prospective employer. It gives you real-life working experience as an event manager to add to your CV as well as helping you to better understand the direction you might want to take your career.

We will help you to prepare your CV, teach you how to do your very best at the interview(s) and advise you on the type of placement company we believe will suit you best. Through a series of one-to-one meetings, we will match you to the perfect opportunity to suit you and your ambitions in the industry.

Volunteer Work Opportunities

You will have the opportunity to volunteer at a variety of events across the industry. Our reputation within the events industry has allowed us access to some of the most exciting events including The Brit Awards, adidas City Run, Secret Cinema, Wilderness and Boardmasters Festivals…

Throughout the year, opportunities are posted for students on our online student hub. Each time you volunteer at an event you are able to add experience to your CV, create contacts and put your learning into action. 

Paid Work Opportunities

To help you earn while you learn and to develop your experience, we have teamed up with a leading event staffing company who will fast track our students into jobs that you can fit around your studies.

With a choice of jobs and flexible hours, students will have the opportunity to work at VIP launches, weddings, film locations and exclusive concerts. Examples include Wembley, Silverstone, Goodwood, Alexandra Palace and Ascot Racecourse on events such as The Grand Prix, The FA Cup Final or concerts for Childish Gambino, 50 Cent, Britney Spears, Jess Glynne, Rudimental, Years and Years. What a way to consolidate everything that’s being taught in class!

Entry Requirements

We are flexible on entry requirements for our courses but as a guideline you can apply if you have ONE of the following:

• 2 A Levels & 5 GCSEs (including English & Maths)
• International Baccalaureate
• Experience working within events or marketing industry
• Alternative professional experience within a business environment

We will always consider other qualifications or experience, so get in touch with our admissions team if you are unsure.

All students will be required to complete an interview prior to acceptance.
